Homesteader's Emporium
Summer 2015 / Packaging Exploration
A locally-owned shop aiming to connect people with the products and skills they need to be or become urban homesteaders from offering materials, DIY kits or workshops for beekeeping, caring for backyard chickens, baking your own bread or practicing fermentation and more.
WHAT
Developing a holistic packaging offering that aligns Homesteader’s 37 different DIY kits (eg. root beer, sprouts, candle-making) that were previously in various forms and packages.
HOW
We conducted a visual audit of the various DIY kits and products to optimize the number of different packaging forms across-the-board. After doing a thorough analysis and landing on a set number of forms, three different packaging directions were explored including imagery, icon and typography opportunities. One design direction was chosen with recommendations for printing and suppliers.
IMPACT
An all-encompassing packaging offering for Homesteader’s DIY kits that effectively emulates the organization’s mandates for sustainability and creativity.
